History of the Educator Certification Program (ECP)
The Region 5 Educator Certification Program (ECP) was originally created in 2007 as a Teacher Certification Program to meet the needs of school districts within the Region 5 Education Service Center area. The program was approved by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification on July 27, 2007 and recommended the first cohort of alternatively certified teachers in 2008. The program has grown and expanded to include the principal certification as well as teacher certification.
Region 5 ECP is recognized by school district administrators as the premier alternative certification program within the Region 5 boundary. Within its five years of existence, four teachers received Teacher of the Year after having taught between one to three years, and many others have received outstanding district and campus recognitions.
Region 5 ECP continues to focus on preparing highly-qualified candidates for schools and students across southeast Texas. Our goal is to prepare educators for the 21st century so that our students receive an effective and globally competitive education.
