Early Childhood Special Education

Early Childhood Special Education

Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) provides training and technical assistance for teachers of students with disabilities ages 3-5 years.

Early Childhood Outcomes

In February 2007, all states began to submit information to the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) at the U.S. Department of Education regarding the progress children make in their Early Childhood Special Education programs.

OSEP identified three specific areas to measure a child's progress:

  • social relationships
  • acquisition and use of knowledge and skills
  • taking appropriate action to meet their needs
