TTPI is a pilot project for 20 middle and high school campuses in the Beaumont, Pt. Arthur and Hamphire-Fannett area. The project is funded to participate in planning, implementing, and monitoring tobacco prevention activities at these campuses. A Tobacco Prevention Specialist is located at the Service Center to coordinate the distribution of initiative funds to local school campuses, conduct tobacco use prevention training for school district staff and parents, provide technical advice to funded campuses, and monitor the effectiveness of funded activities. The initiative is coordinated and funded by the Texas Department of State Health Services. One of the components to be implemented and evaluated as part of this pilot project is School/Communities activities. Each school campus has a contact person or persons who is either a teacher, counselor or principal to carry out ongoing tobacco activities.
