PROGRAM: "A Brief Introduction to American Memory"
This presentation introduces participants to selected highlights from the American Memory collections through a virtual "tour" and interactive Q&A.  This 60 minute program is designed for teacher/librarian groups.  Website

"American Memory Digital Primary Resources:  Connect the Past, Present and Future"
This introductory, hands on workshop develops both a context for WHY one would use primary resources in teaching and an awareness of the rich resources of the Library of Congress's web sites.  Special attention is given to the "treasures" of the sites and to the resources for educators on the Learning Page.  This 60 or 180 minute program is designed for teacher/librarian groups.  A computer lab setting with a presentation system viewable by participants is required. "I Spy American Memory"
An introduction to the Library of Congress websites and to the literacy skills needed to utilize them.  There is a high degree of interaction to maintain student interest and enjoyment.  This 60 minute program is designed for grades 3 - 12.  Website

"Treasure Hunting:  Search Strategies for the American Memory Historical Collections"
This workshop addresses the challenge of finding items in the unique American Memory collections.  It provides participants with a set of skills and a conceptual understanding of the collections which supports effective use of finding aids and searching tools.  Its goal is to provide educators with skills that allow them to enable and empower students to use the collections effectively.  This workshop is interactive and participatory.  This 180 minute presentation is designed for teacher/librarian groups.  A computer lab setting with a presentation system viewable by participants is required.  Website

"Primary Sources:  Learning with American Memory Historical Collections"
This hands on, participatory workshop develops the literacy skills necessary for use of primary source materials.  Understanding what is "seen," what is "heard," and what is "read" through primary sources, while linking to the prior knowledge of the learner, provides a unique bridge to critical thinking inherent in using these resources.  This 180 minute presentation is designed for teacher/librarian groups.  A computer lab setting with a presentation system viewable by participants is required.  Website

"It's All in the Design Workshop"
The workshop's focus is the creation of lessons that use primary sources.  Working with several American Memory collections through an inquiry approach, the topic of immigration and the concept of "Who is an American" is explored.  Participants are provided with tools especially developed to help in designing lessons with primary sources.  With the aid of a Primary Source Kit, fundamental elements of curriculum design and how they translate to the Web environment are explored.  This 180 minute presentation is designed for teacher/librarian groups.  A computer lab setting with a presentation system viewable by participants is required.  Website
