Each Distance Learning session incorporates a variety of activities for the students.  The Zoo Educator will lead your students through individual and small group activities.  A variety of instructional methods are incorporated to maintain interest and create a lively pace!

PROGRAM: "Backyard Animals"
Join the Columbus Zoo in an exploration North American wildlife and discover the plants and animals that live in our own backyard.  Designed for grades 1 - 6.

"Endangered Species"
This program illustrates many of the problems facing endangered species.  Students will be introduced to several animals who are in danger of becoming extinct, and will be encouraged to think of ways that they can help to ensure that these animals will be around for many generations to come.  Designed for grades 1 - 6.

"A Rare Underwater Adventure"
Travel to the mangrove forests of Southwestern Florida and visit the home of the West Indian Manatee.  Students will become scientists as they explore the underwater world of these marine mammals through interdisciplinary activities. Designed for grades 1 - 6.

"Circle of Life"
Explore the ways that animals are linked together in an intricate web of energy and life.  Students will be introduced to food webs and will discover the importance of balance in nature. Designed for grades 1 - 6.

"The Rainforest:  Layers of Life"
Discover the treasures of the rainforest as we uncover the layers which make the most diverse ecosystem in the world!  From the hissing cockroaches on the forest floor to the scarlet macaws in the canopy, this habitat is home to more than 3/4 of the known species of plants and animals on earth! Designed for grades 1 - 6.

"Marine Biology"
Dive into the coral reef exhibit at the Columbus Zoo as they explore ocean habitats through intrerdisciplinary activities.  Designed for grades 7 - 12.

"I Want to Work at a Zoo"
Most people think of being a zoo keeper when they consider a career at the zoo, but there are many other jobs that are equally important to the operation of this "wild" place!  Students will explore the variety of career opportunities that the zoo has to offer, and participate in activities that will prepare them for finding a job in today’s world.  Designed for grades 7 - 12.

"Animals in Jeopardy"
This program will discuss the reasons that animals become endangered, focusing on those most directly related to human activities.  We will look at several endangered species and discuss ways that people can work together in order to save these animals from extinction. Designed for grades 7 - 12.

"Create a Zoo"
2 Sessions = $140 series
If your students built a zoo, what would they need to consider to make sure that the animals be happy and healthy?  Students will discover the things that animals need to survive as they design their own zoo exhibits.  This class is a two part series with the first part focusing on the history of the exhibits at the Columbus Zoo, and the second part centering on the projects your students create. Designed for grades 7 - 12.
