Join COSI's fantastic team in a videoconference that involves students in hands-on activities and demonstrations.  Each program includes hands-on materials for 30 students that will be used during the 40-60 minute show and materials for many additional hours of in-class activities.

PROGRAM: "Gadget Works"
What simple machines are in a wind up toy?  Explore simple machines by observing motion, disassembly, and assembly of these wind up toys.  Designed for grades 2 - 6.

"Body Building"
How would you design a mechanical leg?  Students will use their own bodies to understand state-of-the-art protheses and bionic body parts.  Activities:  wear simulated prosthetics, build body joints, design prosthetics for animals.  Designed for grades 2 - 6.

"Dot Dash to Dot Com"
Electronic communication through time.  Trace this evolution from the telegraph to the Internet.  Build:  a morse code transmitter, computer logic gates, an electromagnet.  Designed for grades 6 - 10.

"Surgical Suite"
Watching live surgery via video conferencing, students will be given a powerful learning experience by interacting with the surgeons and medical personnel in the operating theater.  Students will receive an information packet on heart surgery and the careers associated with the operating room.  Teachers receive a guide which includes pre- and post-experience activities for the classroom.  This is a 3 hour experience.  Designed for grades 5 - 12.

"Teacher Training"
Connect to COSI Columbus for fun and interactive teacher development.  This 45 minute session includes hands-on activities, a question and answer period as well as an overview of classroom management techniques and best practices.  You will receive a kit of materials so your teachers can experience videoconference activities the same way their students will.  Cost is $50.
