Independent
Study Workshops
Introduction
In response
to the growing need for "just-in-time" staff development
for K-12 educators, the Region 5 Education Service Center Department
of Educational Technology provides a number of independent study workshops
in a variety of media formats. These courses provide information about
the following main topics: current and emerging technologies used in
education, knowledge of current best practices, how technology affects
student achievement, and the kind of computer use that positively correlates
to achievement.
These study
courses focus on the goals of Texas' Long-Range Plan for Technology to
improve student achievement by fully integrating technology into teaching
and learning and to ensure that all Texas students are technologically
literate by 2010. The courses involve locating existing practical curriculum
applications, adapting or developing new ones, and correlating activities
to the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and
Skills (TATEKS.)
